Australian Bushfire Relief
17 Jan 2020Harcourts Gold Star Waihi was excited to see the Gallagher Chiefs play the Blues on Friday, 17 January in their only pre-season match at Waihi Athletic Rugby Club.
As part of a group of Harcourts franchises who are a major sponsor of the Gallagher Chiefs, Harcourts Gold Star was keen to get behind the Gallagher Chiefs but also use this opportunity to support another community in need.
Harcourts Gold Star Waihi encouraged the teams to cross the try line as often as possible. For every try scored during the match, Harcourts Gold Star Waihi donated $100 to the Australian bushfire relief effort and the Chiefs Rugby Club decided this was a great idea and also matched this.
Harcourts Gold Star General Manager Greg Sheppard said: “The highly anticipated game gives us a good opportunity to support the communities tragically involved in the Australian bushfires. We’re looking forward to seeing tries being scored so we, alongside the Gallagher Chiefs, will donate a combined $200 for every try scored during the match.”
Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the Blues withstood a big second-half comeback from the Chiefs to win their pre-season Super Rugby with four tries to three to win 26-19.
A total of $1400 was donated to the Australian Bushfire relief by Harcourts Gold Star and The Chiefs Rugby Club.
